ACCESS BACKUP KEYS PHISHING DEVICE BACKUP LOSS SUCCESSION

A plan view of a custody setup: an outer access perimeter and an inner backup perimeter around a core of keys, with four channels cut through them — phishing, device, backup loss and succession.

Sheet 01 — Custody surfaces Rev A · N.T.S.

Four ways a setup fails. A review checks all four. Hover a channel.

The boundary Structural, not a promise

Not a custodian.
Not a broker.
Not an adviser.

KeyCompass never holds your keys, your recovery phrase, or your funds — not for a minute, not to help, not to check something. You keep sole control of everything, throughout every engagement.

Nothing said in a session is investment, legal, or tax advice. No one will tell you what to buy, when to buy, or how much. The work is technical and operational: how to hold safely what you already own.

That boundary is the whole point. It is what makes this work safe to do with someone you have just met.

Private onboarding session

For: you're new to this, or your crypto is still sitting on an exchange.

We do it together, live. Choosing and checking a hardware wallet, setting it up from scratch, generating and backing up your recovery phrase, sending a test amount, confirming it landed, then moving the rest. You drive. I talk you through each step and tell you exactly what to look for, making absolutely sure you understand every threat along the way.

You leave with

  • A working wallet you set up yourself, start to finish
  • A backup you have verified, stored the way you decided
  • A written record of your setup, so you can repeat it
  • The habits that prevent the common losses: verify on the device, test small, never type the phrase and intimitely understand the risks and common scams affecting the community currently.
LIVE Audit · Written report £POA

Threat and security review

For: you already self-custody, and haven't reviewed your setup.

A structured walk through the setup you already have — the four channels on the drawing above. How you access it, how to store backups, what state your devices are in and talk redundancy. Nothing is changed during a review. I look, I ask, and I write it up.

You leave with

  • A prioritised list of what to fix, worst first
  • Plain-English reasoning for every item, not a score out of ten
  • An explicit list of what is already fine, so you can stop worrying about it
  • An assessment once you've made the changes

Prices are per engagement and confirmed in writing before anything is booked. Reviews are scoped on the free intake call — a single wallet and a single backup sits at the bottom of the range; multiple devices, multisig, or a business setup sits at the top.

How a session runs Four steps, in order

You will always know what happens next.

  1. 01

Before — the free 15 minutes

A short intake form, then a fifteen-minute call at no charge. We work out which service you actually need and what it will cost. If the answer is that you do not need this yet, I will say so.

  2. 02

Prep — a list, sent in advance

What to have ready: which devices, a quiet hour, a pen. Nothing sensitive gets written down or captured ahead of time, and nothing gets sent to me.

  3. 03

    The session — video call

Screen sharing runs on my side only. You never show me a recovery phrase, a private key, or an unlocked wallet, and I will stop you if you start to. Everything sensitive stays on your side of the call.

  4. 04

After — you get it in writing

A written summary within 48 hours covering what you set up and what is left to do, plus one follow-up thread for anything that comes up in the first month.

Who this is for Individuals · Couples · Small businesses

Meaningful holdings, and no one plain-spoken to ask.

“It is all on an exchange and that has started to bother me.”

Onboarding session You know why custodial risk matters. You have read enough to be nervous and not enough to feel safe pressing the buttons alone.

“I set this up two years ago and nobody has looked at it since.”

Security review It works, so you have left it alone. That is exactly the setup worth checking — the failures here are quiet until they are total.

“Things have changed since I set it up.”

Security review New phone, new laptop, new house, more assets, blockchain upgrades and migrations. Every one of those moves the ground under a backup plan written for a different life.

“One person in the company understands how it all works.”

Security review A small business holding reserves where access, approval, and recovery all run through a single head. A review maps what is there and what happens if that person is unavailable or goes rogue.

Who you are talking to Solo practice · No sales team

I'm Simon. I have watched this go wrong in every way it goes wrong.

Over a decade in front-line technical support, including experience at Ledger and Apple — helping individuals and businesses set up and maintain their digital assets, recover them, and secure what was on them. Thousands of conversations. The same handful of mistakes, over and over.

KeyCompass is that pattern turned into a service. I am not a wealth manager who also does crypto. I am the person who has sat with someone on the worst day of their financial life and worked out, step by step, what happened — I would rather spend an hour with you now than that hour with you later.

Questions The ones worth asking first

Before you book.

Will you ever ask for my recovery phrase?

No. Not the words, not a photo, not "just the first four". I will never see your phrase, your keys, or your funds, and there is no situation in which I would need to. If anyone ever asks you for it — including someone claiming to be me — that is the scam, and that is the value here.

How do I know it’s really you?

I never make contact first. No cold call or phone call, ever. No unexpected email, no message on Telegram or WhatsApp. Every conversation starts with you booking it — so anyone approaching you out of the blue claiming to be me is not me.

I write from two addresses: hello@keycompass.co.uk & simon@keycompass.co.uk. Read it character by character before you reply. Lookalike domains cost a few pounds, a single swapped letter is the oldest trick in this business, and a convincing message from a near-miss address is still a scam.

And whoever appears to be asking, the answer to “send me your recovery phrase” is no. Not to me, not to support or suggested app, not to anyone, ever. Someone asking is someone stealing from you, and stopping mid-sentence is always the right call.

Is any of this financial advice?

No. KeyCompass is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and does not give investment, legal, or tax advice. I will not tell you what to hold, when to buy, or how much. Every session is about the technical and operational side of holding what you already own. For investment, legal, and tax decisions, use your own licensed professionals.

Is this Bitcoin only?

No. The work covers most networks and the wallets that suppoort them, rather than one chain. Multi-asset setups are usually where the interesting failure modes live, so they are squarely in scope for a review. We will also strive to seek out setups that work with the more nuanced and new projects, ensuring we get the right setup that works for you.

I am not technical. Is that a problem?

Most clients are not. This is the value proposition. Nothing in a session assumes prior knowledge, nothing is skipped because it seems obvious, and there is no question too basic to ask. I am highly skilled in breaking down complex concepts into easily understandable guidance. If a session ends with you nodding along and not understanding, it has failed.

Where are you, and can we work together?

UK-based, working remotely with clients anywhere. Sessions run over video call, scheduled in your timezone wherever the hours allow.

Can you help with inheritance planning or a business treasury?

Not yet, and I would rather say that plainly than take the booking. This is something I am currently working on and plan to open up shortly. A security review can tell you today where your succession plan stands. If you need the full setup now, say so and I will gauge what we can and can't plan together, today.
